How do you feel when something goes “wrong” at work?
Perhaps an email comes in flagging a mistake, and your heart suddenly starts beating out of your chest. You find yourself manically scrolling through past emails trying to figure out whether it was YOU that screwed up. π±
This is really common in my high-achieving clients.
And here’s what I ask them:
β‘οΈ Why are you SO afraid of the fault being with you?
The panic reaction comes from a belief that you should never make mistakes - and that any mistake is DANGEROUS for your career.
And it's totally understandable that your brain is sending you that message...
But, don't forget -
β³οΈ Those are OPTIONAL beliefs.
“But Alex, they WILL be pissed if I screwed this up; it could impact my reputation, career progression etc. etc.”
Ok, maybe. And still. Those beliefs are OPTIONAL.
I know we’re lawyers, but finding the “truth” here isn’t the point.
The point is figuring out whether those beliefs serve you or not.
If the panic is helpful, keep going. π
But if you want to change it, you'll have to persuade your brain that there's less danger than you think in a mistake...
Come and talk to me if you’d like to find out how to do that. π₯
