When you make a mistake at work, what runs through your mind?

Perhaps thoughts like:

😬 I shouldn’t have done that / missed that. 

😬 I’m such an idiot for making that mistake.

😬 More evidence that I’m not good enough.

And that’s pretty normal… especially for high-performers.

But those thoughts cloud our ability to do CLEAN performance evaluations.

If you make a mistake, and want to avoid it in the future, we need to understand WHY you made it. Once we know WHY, we can find a solution.

If you’re consumed with embarrassment. Or you think you made the mistake because of some fundamental character flaw, we are NOWHERE in that evaluation.

➑️ There is no solution for changing the past.

➑️ There is no solution for making you magically smarter. πŸ˜€

So, let’s take all of your negative, self-critical, dramatic thoughts – off the table.

From here on out, we are assuming that you ARE good enough.

What then? Why did you make the mistake?

And the answer will be much less exciting, but 10x more valuable:

βœ… You have a gap in your knowledge 

βœ… You felt rushed or distracted 

βœ… You don’t have a good system for x, y, z

All solvable problems.

And THAT is a Clean Evaluation.

Growth at pace in your career, requires management of your mindset.
